The disease is most noticeable on the fruit, where it causes numerous dark brown spots, l-2 mm in diameter. On the leaves bacterial speck causes dark brown to black spots that are usually slightly larger than those on the fruit.
Pathogen survives on nonhost plants. Infection occurs most abundantly after heavy rains . It can harm fruit quality. Infection is favored by cool (less than 70° F), wet conditions. Epidemics often follow rainstorms that cause abrasion of leaves and splash soil onto the foliage.
